The world is a very different place for the young and the old, and modern living has disrupted the extended family structure that we once grew up in. For many families, communication between different generations no longer occurs, so it is no surprise that age discrimination, largely unintended, occurs in society with both young and old suffering the effects.
Our Age Discrimination workshops help to tackle the situation by describing what age discrimination is and the different forms it can take, from disallowing young people the space to play to pushing past an elderly pensioner on the bus. Our fun but effective role-plays help pupils to think more deeply about age discrimination, with open forum discussions allowing them to explore the issues in greater depths and come up with action plans of their own.
We pride ourselves in listening to schools and understand budgets are tight, so we keep our costs low.

A Year 5 pupil declared ‘It was very informative, the use of videos helped me see what can happen to disabled people in society. It also reaffirmed to me that everyone is valued and needs to be valued’.
Another said, ‘I found it very interesting as I have a disability, and it helped me feel supported for the future’.

I contacted Diversify to be a part of a panel on marginalised LGBT+ identities and intersectionality at the University of Sheffield’s Students Union, and they were absolutely great! It was so easy to organise with them as the communication was great, and the two advocates who came along (Mon and Kir) were brilliant, providing insightful input and lived experiences for the students who attended.
